I've not made any PJ's for a while but this Minerva Exclusive Boudoir Bouquet Brushed Cotton Flannel Fabric is just calling out to be made into a pair of Closet Core Carolyn Pyjamas. It's a beautifully thick flannel and will be perfect for those cold winter nights where you really need to be extra warm.
I cut a straight size 8 even though my measurements are smaller than the last time that I made this pattern. However, it's only just been Christmas so a bit of extra ease will be welcome, plus I love my pyjamas to be loose fitting.
I always forget how many pattern pieces there are in this pattern. I chose to cut out version B with the cuffed arms and trousers. I also decided to sew a coordinating piping too which really brings out the vibrant colours of this print. This is a satin 2mm piping - I really like the contrast between the flannel and the soft satin.
As I've not done any sewing for a while I made a start on the pyjama bottoms as these are much simpler to sew than the top with it's notched collar and ALL the piping. I shortened the length of the trousers by about three inches and added piping on the pockets and the cuffs. I did accidentally sew the cuffs on the wrong trouser legs but as this print is dark, you wouldn't notice unless I told you. Plus, they'll be mostly worn in the dark!
I then moved on to the top and shortened the arms by 3.5 inches. I added piping to the collar, cuffs and centre front seams. I did consider not adding interfacing to the facings and the top collar pattern piece as I thought the fabric might not actually need it as it's such a lovely weight, but I decided to go ahead and interface it anyway and I'm pleased that I did, as it does just give a better finish. I also made the cuffs slightly shorter than the pattern - I think I took off an inch in total so when they're seen on, they're half an inch shorter.
This fabric is lovely to sew with. It barely frays, and as it's a flannel and really thick, most of the time I hardly needed to use any pins or clips as it kind of just stuck together.
This is such a cosy set and I'm so pleased I got it finished in time for this cold snap that we're having here in the UK.

Happy New Year Sewers!
It's so cold here in London that I'm really pleased to have finished this lovely sweater. It's so warm and cosy! The pattern is New Look N6771, a semi fitted top with interesting seam detail and a gathered collar. It's a fairly quick and easy make although some might find the collar a little tricky. This is mainly because of the thickness of the gathers and layers around the neck, especially if using a fleecy sweatshirt fabric. You just need to take your time, use plenty of pins and baste before sewing.
The pattern is semi fitted. I cut the Large, although me measurements put me in the extra large size. I knew from experience that this would be too large across the shoulders, neck and upper bust. However, I took out the shaping in the back and sides as I didn't want it to cling. I'm happy with the result and would definitely use this pattern again.
I used the Minerva polyester fleece back sweatshirt fabric in royal blue. It's very soft, easy to sew on the normal sewing machine using the Gutermann Miraflex thread. It doesn't fray, but I wanted a neater look inside, particularly round the neck and band edges. Unfortunately the overlocker didn't like the multiple layers and I broke the needle!😬
The colour is stunning and I am really pleased with the fabric and would choose it again.
Might try the trousers next!
Geneva GirlLove this! Gorgeous colour and love the styling detail on the front. Shame about the broken needle. This happened to me today with thick fabric on the overlocker. Guess where the needle dropped when changing it. Yes. Down into the hole!!)

StitchWitchThank you! The detail just makes it a little different. The same happened to me with the needle and now I can't find it!😱

There’s something so satisfying about finding the perfect fabric for a project, isn’t there? That’s exactly how I felt when I worked with Minerva’s Exclusive Breton Reverie Organic Cotton Canvas. While this fabric was initially destined for a completely different project (a denim-style jacket, to be precise), it was the perfect match for my latest sewing pattern – the Ava Hip Bag.
What I love about this fabric is how versatile it is. The medium-weight canvas provides just the right amount of structure for the bag, giving it a polished finish without being too stiff. The vibrant design adds a bold and stylish touch to the overall look, making it a statement accessory.
One of the highlights of using this fabric was how easy it was to sew. Even with curves, zippers, and layers, it performed like a dream, making the sewing process smooth and enjoyable. Whether you’re using it for a bag or something completely different, this canvas is a fantastic choice.

Hello lovely Makers
I recently posted my #SewingPlans2025 .
where I shared 9 fabrics from my deep stash (i.e. over 2 years old)
The 1st one I am going to make from my “DeepStash9” is the closet core Nicks dress in this beautiful art gallery rayon challis.
This is a beautifully silky and incredibly lightweight fabric. Minerva no longer stock this design but I have posted a couple of AGF alternatives that I think would make a fabulous Nicks (that are actually in their sale so great value for such a quality fabric).
given how light weight it is I am not going to attempt to make the button loops but close the front and add the buttons as decoration (I have made this dress already and can get it over my head easily so I know that doing it this way isn’t going to be a problem ).
Thank you for reading
Have a great weekend and happy sewing.

I underestimated how much I would love this project after it was finished! Last minute decision to use black satin bias binding rather than using the fabric to make my own.

In the summer of 2023, I bought some fleece backed sweatshirt fabric from Minerva. I used some of it soon after, but most of it stayed in my stash. The other day, I was thinking about how cold it’s been of late and the fabric came to mind. I started scheming how to make a cozy garment out of it.
I wanted something that was simple enough to wear with jeans or dress pants. I knew it needed a funnel neck for warmth. The fabric won’t allow it to be a layering piece, but that’s fine. I used pieces from a few different patterns to make it. I cut it out that night, and then last night and today I put it together. And it’s amazing.
The fabric is so cozy. The funnel neck is ideal. It’s warm and snuggly. The fabric has gold woven throughout for a delightfully fun sparkle. It looks good with jeans. I suspect it will also do well with a basic skirt. Overall, it’s a great piece from a sudden impulse.
Started my first sewing project of the year, creating a Tilly in the Buttons Nell dress with this beautiful polyester crepe!
